❗ Parvibactercaecicola is the correct name instead if this species is regarded as a separate species (i.e., if its nomenclatural type is not assigned to another species whose name is validly published, legitimate and not rejected and has priority) within a separate genus Parvibacter.

🧍 The study by Stoll et al. (2021) claims that Parvibacter caecicola is the correct name of Adlercreutzia caecicola. However, the argumentation used in the publication suggests a misinterpretation of the International Code of Nomenclature of Prokaryotes (ICNP). If Adlercreutzia caecicola is assigned to the genus Adlercreutzia and not treated a as a later heterotypic synonym of another species in that genus, Adlercreutzia caecicola is the correct name of the species. Stoll et al. (2021) probably mean that the species should better be assigned to the genus Parvibacter, in which case the correct name would indeed by Parvibacter caecicola. The ICNP defined the term "correct name" but it is neutral regarding taxonomy. Moreover, the only phylogenetic analysis with support values shown in Stoll et al. (2021) displays Adlercreutzia caecicola as sister group of the other Adlercreutzia species and does not argue for a separate genus (Fig. 2). The argumentation of Nouioui et al. (2018) was not based on any of the other genomic criteria employed by Stoll et al. (2021) for separating the two genera anyway. Accordingly, the conclusion by Nouioui et al. (2018) cannot be attributed to the lack of the type-strain genome sequence of Adlercreutzia caecicola from their analyses.Publication:
