Type species: ¤ Agaribacter marinus Teramoto and Nishijima 2014.
Etymology: N.L. neut. n. agarum, agar; N.L. masc. n. bacter, rod; N.L. masc. n. Agaribacter, an agar (-degrading) rod, because the type species degrades agar.
