Etymology: L. adj. cereus, waxen, wax-coloured; n. bacter a rod; N.L. masc. n. Cereibacter, wax-coloured (brownish-yellow) rod.

Etymology: N.L. masc. adj. changlensis, pertaining to Changla Pass, the location from where the type strain was isolated.
