Etymology: N.L. masc. n. Emci derived from the arbitrary name formed from the acronym MCCC for Marine Culture Collection of China, where this investigation was carried out; N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Emcibacter, a rod- shaped micro-organism described by scientists working at MCCC.
