Etymology: L. neut. n. ferrum, iron; N.L. neut. suff. genium, from Gr. v. gennaô, to produce, engender; N.L. neut. n. Ferrigenium, ferric iron producer).

Ferrigenium kumadai Khalifa et al. 2018, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) An22=JCM 30584=NBRC 112974=ATCC TSD-51.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: LC065124.
Etymology: N.L. masc. gen. n. kumadai, named after a Japanese soil scientist Kyoichi Kumada, in honour of his pioneering research on iron dynamics in paddy field soil.
