Etymology: L. neut. n. lact, lactis, milk; N.L. masc. n. vibrio, vibrio, that which vibrates, the vibrating, darting organism; N.L. masc. n. Lactivibrio, a vibrio that degrades lactic acid).

Etymology: N.L. n. alcohol, alcohol; L. suff. -icus, suffix used with the sense of pertaining to; N.L. masc. adj. alcoholicus, belonging to alcohol, referring to the substrate alcohols, which are metabolized by the species.
