Etymology: N.L. n. methylum, the methyl group; N.L. pref. methylo, pertaining to the methyl radical; L. fem. n. terra, earth; L. suff. -cola (from L. n. incola), inhabitant; N.L. fem. n. Methyloterricola, a terrestrial methyl-using bacterium.
