Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Mixta, the mixed one, referring to the mixed lifestyles of species in the genus.

Etymology: L. fem. adj. calida, warm, hot, reflecting its ability to grow at 44 °C.

Basonym: ¤ Pantoea gaviniae Popp et al. 2010.
Etymology: N.L. fem. gen. n. gaviniae, of Gavini, in honour of Francoise Gavini, a French microbiologist who first described the genus Pantoea.
