Etymology: L. n. Mona, the Latin name of the Isle of Anglesey, -i-, connecting vowel; Gr. n. bakterion, small rod; N.L. neut. n. Monaibacterium, a bacterium from nearby of Isle of Anglesey from which the type strain was isolated.
