Type species: ¤ Neorhizobium galegae Mousavi et al. 2015.
Etymology: Gr. adj. neo, new; N.L. neut. n. Rhizobium, a bacterial generic name; N.L. neut. n. Neorhizobium, the new Rhizobium, to refer to the fact that it is a new group of Rhizobium.

Etymology: N.L. n. alkali (from Arabic al-qaliy), alkali; L. n. solum, soil; N.L. gen. n. alkalisoli, of alkaline soil, referring to the fact that the bacterium was isolated from Caragana intermedia grown in saline-alkali soil.
