Etymology: Gr. prep. para, beside, alongside of, near, like; N.L. fem. n. Blastomonas, a bacterial generic name; N.L. fem. n. Parablastomonas, beside Blastomonas.

Etymology: L. fem. adj. arctica, northern, from the Arctic, referring to the site where the type strain was isolated.
