Etymology: N.L. masc. adj. xinjiangensis, referring to Xinjiang, a region of China, where the type strain was isolated.

Note: Li et al. (2016) propose to unify Salininema proteolyticum and Paraglycomyces xinjiangensis because, according to Rule 42 of the International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria, the name Salininema proteolyticum has priority; Paraglycomyces xinjiangensis is a later heterotypic synonym.
