Etymology: Gr. prep. para, resembling; N.L. masc. n. Alkalibacillus, a bacterial genus; N.L. masc. n. Paralkalibacillus, resembling the genus Alkalibacillus.

Paralkalibacillus indicireducens Hirota et al. 2017, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) Bps-1=JCM 31808=NCIMB 15080.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: LC197841.
Etymology: L. neut. n. indicum, indigo; L. pres. part. reducens, bringing or leading back, used to mean ‘reducing’; N.L. part. adj. indicireducens, indigo-reducing.
