Etymology: Gr. adj. pseudês, false; N.L. n. masc. Bacteroides, a bacterial generic name; N.L. masc. n. Pseudobacteroides, false Bacteroides, so named for the original misclassification of the type species.

Etymology: N.L. n. cellulosum, cellulose; L. v. solvere, to dissolve; N.L. part. adj. cellulosolvens, cellulose-dissolving, so named because of its ability to ferment cellulosic substrates.
