Etymology: Gr. adj. psychros, cold; Gr. n. bios, life; N.L. neut. n. Psychrobium, a living entity coming from the cold.

Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) BJ-1=JCM 30103=DSM 28701.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AB930131.
Etymology: L. gen. n. conchae, of/from a shell, referring to the isolation of the type strain from gill tissue of a mussel.
