Type species: ¤ Puia dinghuensis Lv et al. 2017.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Puia, genus named in honour of Zhe-long Pu, a well-known Chinese entomologist who was the founder and the first director of the State Key Laboratory of Biocontrol, Sun Yat-sen University.

Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. dinghuensis, referring to Dinghu Mountain, Dinghushan Biosphere Reserve, Guangdong Province, PR China, where the organism was first isolated.
