Salininema proteolyticum Nikou et al. 2015, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) Miq-4=IBRC-M 10908=LMG 28391.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: KP162267.
Etymology: Gr. n. proteus, the primary one, referring to proteins as primary polymers of life; L. adj. lyticus, (from Gr. adj. lytikos), dissolving; N.L. neut. adj. proteolyticum, protein-dissolving.

Note: Li et al. (2016) propose to unify Salininema proteolyticum and Paraglycomyces xinjiangensis because according to Rule 42 of the International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria the name Salininema proteolyticum has priority; Paraglycomyces xinjiangensis is a later heterotypic synonym.
