Etymology: L. n. sedimentum, sediment; L. fem. n. talea, a rod; N.L. Sedimentitalea, fem. a rod isolated from sediment.

Sedimentitalea nanhaiensis Breider et al. 2014, comb. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) NH52F=DSM 24252=LMG 24841.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: FJ232451.
Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. nanhaiensis, referring to Nanhai, the Chinese name for the South China Sea, from where the type strain was isolated.
