Etymology: N.L. fem. pl. n. Sinae, China; L. adj. marinus, of the sea, marine; L. neut. n. bacterium, a small rod; N.L. neut. n. Sinimarinibacterium, a rod-shaped bacterium from different sea areas of China.

Etymology: N.L. part. adj. flocculans, flocculating, referring to the organism's tendency to flocculate in the liquid medium.
