Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Terasakiispira named to honour Yasuke Terasaki, a Japanese microbiologist, for his contributions to the study of spiral-shaped bacteria; L. fem. n. spira, a spiral; N.L. fem. n. Terasakiispira, Terasaki's spiral.

Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. papahanaumokuakeensis, derived from Papaha¯naumokua¯kea, the Marine National Monument within which the type strain was isolated.
