Etymology: N.L. fem. pl. n. Ursidae, taxonomic name for the bear family; N.L. masc. n. bacter a rod; N.L. masc. n. Ursidibacter, rod isolated from Ursidae.

Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) Bamse61=CCUG 65145=DSM 28138.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: KJ632969.
Etymology: L. masc. adj. arcticus northern, Arctic, referring to Ursus arctos from which the strains were isolated.
