Etymology: N.L. pl. n. Vespertilionidae, taxonomic name for the largest family of bats, consisting of insectivorous microbats; N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Vespertiliibacter, rod isolated from vespertilionid bats.
