Etymology: N.L. neut. n. gelatinum, gelatin; N.L. fem. adj. lytica (from Gr. fem. adj. lutik7ecirc;) able to loosen, able to dissolve; N.L. fem. adj. gelatinilytica, gelatin-dissolving, referring to the property of being able to hydrolyse gelatin.
