Etymology: Gr. adj. xanthos, yellow; L. masc. adj. marinus, from the sea; N.L. fem. n. Xanthomarina, yellow organism from seawater.

Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) AK20=MTCC 11705=JCM 18821.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: HE653972.
Etymology: N.L. neut. n. gelatinum, gelatin; N.L. fem. adj. lytica (from Gr. fem. adj. lutik7ecirc;) able to loosen, able to dissolve; N.L. fem. adj. gelatinilytica, gelatin-dissolving, referring to the property of being able to hydrolyse gelatin.
