Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Youngia, Young; N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Youngiibacter, a rod named after Lily Y. Young, an American microbiologist, for her contributions to our understanding of anaerobic hydrocarbon microbiology.

Etymology: L. masc. adj. fragilis, easily broken, brittle, fragile, pertaining to the fragile nature of the cell wall.
