Notes:
1 The subgenus Gluconoacetobacter appears in Validation List no. 17 (publication date: 15 April 1985). The nomenclatural type of this subgenus is cited as Acetobacter (subgen. Gluconoacetobacter) liquefaciens. However Acetobacter (subgen. Gluconoacetobacter) liquefaciens is not listed in Validation List no. 17 and this name seems inadvertently to have been omitted from this list. This error has been corrected by Euzéby and Kudo. The date of valid publication of this name is that of List no. 17 (15 April 1985).

2 The Bacteriological Code (1990 Revision) does not envisage the status of the species transferred into subgenera but, according to a Request for an Opinion the status of such species should be that of new combinations.
