Type genus: ¤ Acetobacter Beijerinck 1898 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. masc. n. Acetobacter, type genus of the tribe; suff. -eae, ending to denote a tribe; N.L. fem. pl. n. Acetobactereae, the Acetobacter tribe.
