Type species: ¤ Acidiplasma aeolicum Golyshina et al. 2009.
Etymology: N.L. neut. n acidum, an acid; Gr. neut. n. plasma, something shaped or moulded; N.L. neut. n. Acidiplasma, an acid-living form.

Acidiplasma aeolicum Golyshina et al. 2009, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)

Etymology: L. neut. adj. aeolicum, from the Aeolian archipelago, to which Vulcano Island belongs, where the type strain was isolated.
