Type species: ¤ Acidisphaera rubrifaciens Hiraishi et al. 2000.

Etymology: N.L. n. acidum (from L. adj. acidus, sour), an acid; L. fem. n. sphaera, a ball, globe, sphere; N.L. fem. n. Acidisphaera, acid (-requiring) coccoid microorganism.
