Acidobacterium Kishimoto et al. 1991, gen. nov. (Type genus of the order ¤ Acidobacteriales Cavalier-Smith 2002; type genus of the family ¤ Acidobacteriaceae Thrash and Coates 2012).
Type species: ¤ Acidobacterium capsulatum Kishimoto et al. 1991.
Etymology: N.L. n. acidum (from L. adj. acidus, sour), an acid; L. neut. n. bacterium, a small rod; N.L. neut. n. Acidobacterium, an acid-loving rod.
