Etymology: N.L. n. alkanum, saturated hydrocarbon; N.L. masc. n. bacter, rod; N.L. masc. n. Alkanibacter, rod assimilating alkanes.

Etymology: L. masc. adj. difficilis, difficult, because it is difficult to cultivate.
