Allorhizobium de Lajudie et al. 1998, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Allorhizobium undicola de Lajudie et al. 1998.
Etymology: Gr. adj. allos, another, other, different; N.L. neut. n. Rhizobium, a bacterial generic name; N.L. neut. n. Allorhizobium, the other Rhizobium, to refer to the fact that it is phylogenetically separate from other Rhizobium species.

Note: Young et al. 2001 propose to transfer ¤ Allorhizobium undicola de Lajudie et al. 1998 (the type species of the genus Allorhizobium) to the genus ¤ Rhizobium as ¤ Rhizobium undicola (de Lajudie et al. 1998) Young et al. 2001, comb. nov. According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Allorhizobium to ¤ Rhizobium.
