Etymology: L. adj. alter –tera -terum, another, the other; L. masc. n. bacillus, a rod and also a bacterial generic name [Bacillus Cohn 1872 (Approved Lists 1980)]; N.L. masc. n. Alteribacillus, another Bacillus.
