Etymology: N.L. n. ammonium, ammonium; L. suff. -fex (from L. v. facere, to make), maker; N.L. masc. n. Ammonifex, the ammonium-maker.

Etymology: Gr. n. theion (Latin transliteration thium), sulfur; N.L. masc. adj. philus (from Gr. masc. adj. philos), friend, loving; N.L. masc. adj. thiophilus, sulfur-loving.
