Anaerolinea Sekiguchi et al. 2003, gen. nov. (Type genus of the family ¤ Anaerolineaceae Yamada et al. 2006; type genus of the order ¤ Anaerolineales Yamada et al. 2006).

Etymology: Gr. pref. an, not; Gr. masc. n. aer, air; L. fem. n. linea, line; N.L. fem. n. Anaerolinea, line-shaped not living in air.

Etymology: Gr. adj. thermos, hot; L. adj. limosus, muddy, pertaining to sludge; N.L. fem. adj. thermolimosa, living in thermophilic sludge.
