Anaeroplasma Robinson et al. 1975, genus. (Type genus of the order ¤ Anaeroplasmatales Robinson and Freundt 1987; type genus of the family ¤ Anaeroplasmataceae Robinson and Freundt 1987).
Type species: ¤ Anaeroplasma abactoclasticum Robinson et al. 1975 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: Gr. prefix an, not, without; Gr. n. aer, air; Gr. neut. n. plasma, anything formed or moulded, image, figure, form; N.L. neut. n. Anaeroplasma, a form not living in air, intended to mean anaerobic mycoplasma.

Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) ATCC 27879.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: M25050.
Etymology: Gr. prefix a, not, without; Gr. bakt- (Latin transliteration bact-), part of the stem of the Gr. dim. n. bakterion (Latin transliteration bacterium), a small rod; N.L. adj. clasticus -a -um (from Gr. adj. klastos -ê -on, broken in pieces), breaking; N.L. neut. adj. abactoclasticum, intended to mean not bacteriolytic.

Etymology: Gr. bakt- (Latin transliteration bact-), part of the stem of the Gr. dim. n. bakterion (Latin transliteration bacterium), a small rod; N.L. adj. clasticus -a -um (from Gr. adj. klastos -ê -on, broken in pieces), breaking; N.L. neut. adj. bactoclasticum,  bacteria-breaking.
