Type species: ¤ Ancylobacter aquaticus (Ørskov 1928) Raj 1983.
Illegitimate synonym: ¤ Microcyclus Ørskov 1928 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: Gr. adj. ankulos, crooked, curved; N.L. masc. n. bacter, rod; N.L. masc. n. Ancylobacter, a curved rod.
