Etymology: Gr. adj. antarktikos, antarctic; N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod or staff; N.L. masc. n. Antarctobacter, a rod-shaped bacterium from Antarctica.

Etymology: Gr. n. hêlios, sun; Gr. adj. thermos, hot; N.L. masc. adj. heliothermus, heated by the sun, referring to the heliothermal water layers of Ekho Lake, the source.
