Aquifex Huber and Stetter 1992, gen. nov. (Type genus of the order ¤ Aquificales Reysenbach 2002; type genus of the family ¤ Aquificaceae Reysenbach 2002).
Type species: ¤ Aquifex pyrophilus Huber and Stetter 1992.
Etymology: L. fem. n. aqua, water; L. suff. -fex from L. v. facio, to make; N.L. masc. n. Aquifex, the water maker.
