Etymology: L. n. aqua, water; L. fem. n. monas, a unit, monad; N.L. fem. n. Aquimonas, a water monad, referring to the isolation of the type species from a warm spring water sample.

Etymology: N.L. gen. n. voraii, of Vora, named after V.V. Vora, a distinguished biotechnologist and founder director of the Institute of Microbial Technology, Chandigarh, India.
