Type species: ¤ Aquimonas voraii Saha et al. 2005.
Etymology: L. n. aqua, water; L. fem. n. monas, a unit, monad; N.L. fem. n. Aquimonas, a water monad, referring to the isolation of the type species from a warm spring water sample.

Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) GPTSA 20 = JCM 12896 = MTCC 6713.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AY544768.
Etymology: N.L. gen. n. voraii, of Vora, named after V.V. Vora, a distinguished biotechnologist and founder director of the Institute of Microbial Technology, Chandigarh, India.
