Type order: ¤ Mycobacteriales Janke 1924 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. arabo-, combining form of arabic; Gr. n. baktêria, staff, cane; suff. -ia, ending to denote a class; N.L. neut. pl. n. Arabobacteria, a group of bacteria which, unlike other bacteria, always contain arabinose in their cells or walls (arabinose was originally isolated from gum arabic).
