Armatimonas Tamaki et al. 2011, gen. nov. (Type genus of the order ¤ Armatimonadales Tamaki et al. 2011; type genus of the family ¤ Armatimonadaceae Tamaki et al. 2011).
Type species: ¤ Armatimonas rosea Tamaki et al. 2011.
Etymology: L. adj. armatus, armoured or armour-clad; L. fem. n. monas, a unit; N.L. fem. n. Armatimonas, an armour-clad unit, referring to the hard colonies.

Etymology: L. fem. adj. rosea, rose-coloured or rosy, referring to the pinkish colour of the colonies.
