Etymology: Gr. adj. aspros, white; L. fem. n. monas, a unit, monad; N.L. fem. n. Aspromonas, a white monad.

Note: Aslam et al. 2009 propose to transfer Aspromonas composti Jin et al. 2007 (the type species of the genus Aspromonas) to the genus ¤ Arenimonas Kwon et al. 2007 as ¤ Arenimonas composti (Jin et al. 2007) Aslam et al. 2009, comb. nov. According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Aspromonas to ¤ Arenimonas.
