Etymology: Gr. pref. a, not; N.L. n. sterolum, sterol; -e- connecting vowel; Gr. neut. n. plasma, anything formed or moulded, image, figure, form; N.L. neut. n. Asteroleplasma, name intended to indicate that sterol is not required for growth.
