Type species: ¤ Azonexus fungiphilus Reinhold-Hurek and Hurek 2000.
Etymology: N.L. n. azotum [from Fr. n. azote (from Gr. prep. a, not; Gr. n. zôê, life; N.Gr. n. azôê, not sustaining life)], nitrogen; N.L. pref. azo-, pertaining to nitrogen; L. masc. n. nexus, coil (only poet. and in post-Aug. prose); N.L. masc. n. Azonexus, nitrogen-fixing coil.

Etymology: L. gen. n. caeni, of sludge.

Etymology: L. masc. n. fungus, a mushroom, fungus; N.L. adj. philus -a -um (from Gr. adj. philos -ê -on), friend, loving; N.L. masc. adj. fungiphilus, mushrooms or fungi loving, referring to its source of isolation.
