Bdellovibrionaceae Garrity et al. 2006, fam. nov.
Type genus: ¤ Bdellovibrio Stolp and Starr 1963 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. masc. n. Bdellovibrio, type genus of the family; suff. -aceae, ending to denote family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Bdellovibrionaceae, the Bdellovibrio family.

Note: According to Rule 51b (1), the family name Bdellovibrionaceae Garrity et al. 2006 is illegitimate because the family contains the genus Bacteriovorax Baer et al. 2000 which is the type of the family Bacteriovoracaceae Davidov and Jurkevitch 2004.
