Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Beijerinckia, named after M.W. Beijerinck, the Dutch microbiologist (1851-1931).

Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. fluminensis, pertaining to Fluminense, named after the locality “Baixada Fluminense”, State Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from which soil it was first isolated.

Note:
Strains UQM 1685, CIP 106281, and any other equivalents derived from them (CCUG 53676, NCAIM B.01797) do not conform to the description of the type strain of Beijerinckia fluminensis Döbereiner and Ruschel 1958 (Approved Lists 1980) [1]. Strains UQM 1685 and CIP 106281 were identified as ¤ Rhizobium radiobacter [1], leaving Beijerinckia fluminensis without an authentic type.
In July 2011, Oggerin et al. [2] propose that the Judicial Commission places the name Beijerinckia fluminensis on the list of rejected names (see Rule 56a), unless a suitable replacement type strain or a neotype is found or proposed (see Rule 18c).
