Brevinema Defosse et al. 1995, gen. nov. (Type genus of the family ¤ Brevinemataceae Paster 2012).
Type species: ¤ Brevinema andersonii Defosse et al. 1995.
Etymology: L. adj. brevis, short; Gr. neut. n. nema, thread; N.L. neut. n. Brevinema, a short thread.
Valid publication: DEFOSSE (D.L.), JOHNSON (R.C.), PASTER (B.J.), DEWHIRST (F.E.) and FRASER (G.J.): Brevinema andersonii gen. nov., sp. nov., an infectious spirochete isolated from the short-tailed shrew (Blarina brevicauda) and the white-footed mouse (Peromyscus leucopus). Etymology: N.L. masc. gen. n. andersonii, of Anderson, named after John F. Anderson, who first described the organism.
