Type species: ¤ Bryocella elongata Dedysh et al. 2012.
Etymology: Gr. neut. n. bruon, moss; L. fem. n. cella, a storeroom, chamber and, in biology, a cell; N.L. fem. n. Bryocella, moss(-associated) cell.

Etymology: L. fem. part. adj. elongata, elongated, stretched out, pertaining to the elongated cell shape.
