Calderobacterium Kryukov et al. 1984, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Calderobacterium hydrogenophilum Kryukov et al. 1984.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. caldera (from the Portuguese n. caldera), cauldron; L. neut. n. bacterium, a small rod; N.L. neut. n. Calderobacterium, a rod living in a cauldron.
Valid publication: Validation List no. 14. Int. J. Syst. Bacteriol., 1984, 34, 270-271.
Effective publication: KRYUKOV (V.R.), SAVELYEVA (N.D.) and PUSHEVA (M.A.): Calderobacterium hydrogenophilum nov. gen., nov. sp., an extreme thermophilic hydrogen bacterium, and its hydrogenase activity. Mikrobiologiya, 1983, 52, 781-788.
Validation List no. 14 in IJSEM Online

¤ Hydrogenobacter Kawasumi et al. 1984.

Note: Stöhr et al. 2001 propose to transfer ¤ Calderobacterium hydrogenophilum Kryukov et al. 1984 (the type species of the genus Calderobacterium) to the genus ¤ Hydrogenobacter as ¤ Hydrogenobacter hydrogenophilus (Kryukov et al. 1984) Stöhr et al. 2001, comb. nov. According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Calderobacterium to ¤ Hydrogenobacter.

Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) INMI Z-829 = DSM 2913 = JCM 8158.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: Z30242.
Etymology: N.L. n. hydrogenum (from Gr. n. hudôr, water; and Gr. v. gennaô, to produce), hydrogen (that which produces water, so called because it forms water when exposed to oxygen); N.L. neut. adj. philum (from Gr. neut. adj. philon), friend, loving; N.L. neut. adj. hydrogenophilum, hydrogen loving.
