Type species: ¤ Caldithrix abyssi Miroshnichenko et al. 2003.
Etymology: L. adj. caldus, hot; Gr. fem. n. thrix, thread; N.L. fem. n. Caldithrix, a thread existing in a hot environment.

Etymology: L. gen. n. abyssi, of immense depths, living in the depth of the ocean.

Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) MC = DSM 21940 = VKM B-2536.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: FJ999729.
Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. palaeochoryensis, pertaining to Palaeochory Bay in Greece, where the type strain was isolated.
