Etymology: L. adj. caldus, hot; Gr. fem. n. thrix, thread; N.L. fem. n. Caldithrix, a thread existing in a hot environment.

Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. palaeochoryensis, pertaining to Palaeochory Bay in Greece, where the type strain was isolated.
